The New Amsterdam

An aromatic twist on one of our favorite winter warmers – the Manhattan. A shout out to our friend, Eleanor, for her gift of Allspice Dram that inspired this recipe!

Ingredients

1½ oz rye whiskey
½ oz sweet vermouth
¼  oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
2 dashes orange bitters    

Instructions

  1. Combine in a shaker glass, with ice.
  2. Shake, pour.
  3. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, an orange twist and 3 allspice berries.

My husband says: Again with the convoluted cocktail names. The island of Manhattan was purchased by the Dutch East India Company, who called it New Amsterdam. The Dutch East India Company also had a virtual lock on the spice trade.
